Austin Wienand is our young camp manager, who is also a fully qualified guide, with unbelievable luck (he would say ‘skill’) when it comes to fishing.
Everisto Kambobe is our local guide cum coxswain who hails from the Mumbwa area.
Chriss Wienand is the General Manager, who escapes the madness of Lusaka to the peace and beauty of Kafue River Camp whenever he has the chance.

Kafue River Camp was built using almost completely utilizing materials gleaned from the surrounding area. Bricks are made with an interlocking brick press, using soil from the dambo nearby. All roofs were thatched with grass from the camp’s immediate vicinity; wood for doors, window-frames, chairs and tables was obtained from nearby Mumbwa, made by the camp’s resident carpenter. Camp staff, all from the immediate area, are always on the lookout for attractive pieces of driftwood which the camp manager turns into toilet-roll holders and bedside lamps.
Water for showers is heated in a unique geyser system (designed by our General Manager, Chriss Wienand) for each chalet and the kitchen, which use a minimal amount of dead wood collected from the property.
A small wind turbine is used to charge batteries, and all lights are solar-powered
