KaingU Lodge uses solar energy and water turbines and water-pumps will be installed in future which do not need any fuel or electricity. All staff are localy trained by the Lodge Managing Directors Tom and Viv.
All building works and thatching is done by local people who have been trained by Tom. With a little grant we have a team called "Tusole" (3,4 guys) who got a little loan through Tom and is an idependant micro-enterprise doing road works, slashing , dam-building for various nabouring lodges. Another project which is almost finished is the "Iron Smelter Project" . With a small grant an old iron-smelter has been constructed together with an educational Inkuta where guests can learn how in earlier times the locals smelted iron.
The lodge also contributes with donations for local festivites. IronSmelters Project will be producing small items to be sold to guests.
The lodge employs elders from the community who know the history about the area and their history for "Outings" and over-night stays with ex-poachers at "Poachers'Rock", Iron Smelter Sight visits, Hot Springs and Gem-Mining Sites.
